NECROMIUM POLICY
Welcome to Necromium! Our desire is for everyone to thoroughly enjoy their
game experience in Necromium. To that end, we have a list of policies that
should be followed. Do familiarize yourself with them.
Note, however, that this document should not be read as a set of legalistic
dos and don'ts. We're not preparing legislation. And we're not the police. We
also don't want to hand out severe punishments for every single offense
committed.
What is important is the spirit behind these policies. If there was a single
sentence that expresses our philosophy, it would be, "Be fair at all times,
and be nice if you can". We won't say that you must be nice to everyone, but
we do ask that you play fair in the game, and be fair to your fellow players
and/or opponents. These policies outline what we believe constitutes fair
play. We will enforce these standards, so you should play by them.
* You should not gain any kind of advantage from the abuse or
exploitation of bugs or errors in the game. Bugs or errors include
coding flaws and zone building flaws. In fact, we encourage you to
report such instances using the "BUG" command. We suggest that if you
encounter any potential bugs or errors, you should first ask around to
confirm how you should treat the matter. More culpability may be
attributed to the degree to which you have profited from the bug or
error, and if so, also to the degree to which you concealed its existence.
* In particular, please report anything which allows you to:-
(1) loot a player outside of CPK
(2) steal items from a live player or
(3) duplicate equipment, gold or other in-game material.
* Do not drop link to gain an advantage for yourself. Type "HELP LINK" for
more information. Culpability may be attributed to the degree to which
you have profited from losing link. It is culpable if you do so in order
to avoid backstab lag or steal lag, and especially culpable if you do so
in CPK.
* Abide by our rules on player-killing. Type "HELP PKRULES" for more
information. Remember - in any zone outside of a CPK zone, you must not
engage a player that is in combat with a non-player character. If you do
so by accident, then apologize and don't do it again. More culpability
will be attracted if you gain a reputation for infringement of our
player-killing rules.
* We have a tag policy that applies to non-player characters. Type "HELP
TAG" for more information. With regards to ordinary non-player
characters, the general principle is that you should not steal another
person's kill, nor should you assist a non-player character if another
person is already engaged in combat with that non-player character. If it
happens, apologize and don't do it again. Also, give back items or gold
that may have been looted from the kill. With regards to important
non-player characters (eg. those with keys to a zone or those with
desired equipment) you should generally check to see if it has been
damaged before initiating offensive action. More culpability will be
attracted if you gain a reputation for infringing tag rules.
* We have a policy on how to handle zone keys. Type "HELP KEYS" for more
information. You should generally attempt to ensure that if you are no
longer running a zone, the keys are either disposed of (eg. by junking)
or are dropped at recall. More culpability is attracted if you try to
conceal keys.
* You should not play more than one character at a time. Type "HELP
MULTIPLAYING" for more information. It's important to remember that you
quit from the game first, then log in another character. This removes all
doubt as to whether you were multiplaying. More culpability will be
attracted if you gain an advantage by multiplaying.
* Follow our channel use policies. Type "HELP (channel name)" for more
information. And don't spam any public channel. More culpability will be
attracted in cases of repeated breach.
* Unless explicitly permitted, don't use triggers or other means to
initiate or automate combat. Read "HELP TRIGGER" for more information.
Also, the use of BOTS is generally not allowed. Read "HELP BOTS". If in
doubt, ask around to see how you should treat a proposed trigger or
alias. More culpability will be attracted depending on the degree to
which benefit accrues to you or your friends from the use of a combat
trigger, or a BOT.
From time to time, we are also asked about how we deal with certain issues.
We would like to set out our philosophy on those issues here and how we would
like you to treat such issues.
* You, and you alone, are responsible for your passwords. As a general
rule, we will not recover lost, stolen or forgotten passwords. Similarly,
we will not recover characters or equipment lost as a result. Get a good
password, write it down, keep it safe, and don't share it. Better yet,
change your password every so often. The e-mail system is your final
backup. If you enter an e-mail address that is invalid, you will never be
able to take advantage of the e-mailer if you ever need to recover your
password. Read "HELP AUTH" for more information on this.
* Also, as a general rule, we will not reimburse equipment, gold, or other
materials lost in the game, nor will we restore your characters' stats.
Exceptions to this are extremely rare. We may, for example, make
exceptions where it is proven conclusively that your loss was due to a
bug or error, or due to another player's violation of a rule, and where
you are without direct or indirect fault or negligence. But even then,
there may be other circumstances which prevent us from making an
exception. Any application for an exception to this rule will be treated
on its own merits on a case-by-case basis.
* We generally don't give out name changes. Exceptions may be made, but
these are not granted as of right now. We may, however, require you to change
an inappropriate name. Read "HELP NAME GUIDELINES" for more information
on this.
* When you are in the game, do not conduct any transactions of any nature
involving or including any real-life consideration. This includes,
without limitation, buying and selling of characters/equipment for money.
This is a one-strike out policy. If discovered, serious consequences will
be attracted.
* We don't run down other MUDs on public channels or bulletin boards, and
we do not advertise on other MUDs. We would appreciate it if, similarly,
no advertisements of other MUDs were made in our MUD.
* With respect to relations between players, we ask that you use your
common sense. It's very hard to write a rule for player relations. But
it's easy to tell when things have gone overboard. We will step in when
appropriate. Some things are probably quite obvious. For example, you
should not cast the summon spell to summon a person without their
permission. And don't lure people into NPK or SPK and kill them there.
Likewise, it goes without saying that there should never be any
religious, racial, sexual or other harassment of any person. Also, there
comes a point in time when trash talking degenerates into harassment
and/or abusive behavior. Complaints may result. The resolution of those
complaints may not work out in your favor. Therefore, understand this -
if you choose to participate in and escalate a verbal sparring match, you
are accepting the risk that we may decide it is you that is behaving
improperly.
* We try to ensure that all our immortal staff are above board. If you ever
encounter problems with an immortal character, bring the matter to the
relevant supervisor (type "WIZLIST" for more help on this).
We work very hard to make sure you have a great game experience. We may, from time
to time, come down harshly on certain acts or certain people. But we can also make
you this promise - if you can reasonably demonstrate that you have behaved fairly,
we, too, will do our utmost to be fair to you. We hope that you will work together,
with us, to make Necromium an extremely enjoyable place to be.
Sincerely,
The Staff of Necromium
